Today, around 2:15, I stepped out into the fine spring air for a quick stroll. Noticing smoke rising from Cooper Street, I dashed back to the New Heights Realty office and borrowed Rob Kleinbardt’s camera.
Firemen were already on the scene as I approached–smashing windows, dousing flames and helping residents escape the smoke billowing from their apartment building.
According the Manhattan Times, the source of the fire was a dropped candle.
Thank you Ladder 36. Seeing you in action was nothing short of amazing.

The folks at 95/36 are fine people–drop by and bring goodies to say thank you. (I am not a firefighter, but volunteer with the Red Cross and have met them after a fire or two.)
I also noticed Engine 93 was there–this is a company that is on the list to be shut down as of July 1. There is a rally outside their house on 181st off Audubon, on Tuesday the 27th at 10 a.m. Get to work couple hours late if you can, and show your support for this engine!
