I grew up in Inwood too - at 110 Post Avenue. Looking at these photos was a joy; so many old memories. I vividly recall playing stickball and "king and queen" outside of my building. Does anyone recall the snowstorm that covered the tops of the cars? (circa 1950s) We walked on top of them for days.

Thank you for an amazing trip back home. I grew up at 3736 10th Avenue, in the Dyckman Projects. I was born in 1949 and lived there from 1950-1967. Right here on the wall in my study, I've got my 9th grade JHS 52 class picture. So exciting to read about and see pictures of that school and my old neighborhood. It was a great place to grow up. I cannot thank you enough for putting this up. I learned a lot.

What a great site! Thanks so much for the memories. Lived at 44 Seaman Ave. Walked to school - PS 98 and then JHS 52. Great neighborhood. Played in the parks and the Cloisters. Public library right down the block. Great bakery on Dyckman and Broadway too!

I lived at 128 Seaman Avenue in Inwood with my parents and 8 younger sisters. I attended Good Shepherd School - graduated in 1962 and then St. Simon Stock HS, Class of 1966. I now live in New Hampshire and have been married for 42 years to a Highbridge "boy", Kevin Joyce. I had such a wonderful educational experience, that I eventually became an educator myself - a high school Social Studies teacher and Assistant Principal in NH.
Our daughter was born in Inwood and still remembers Joe's Snack Shack....I have wonderful memories of my childhood there. I wish those neighborhoods still existed for my 3 grandchildren....Thank you for sharing these great times with us!

Great pics & wonderful memories. I lived at 256 Seaman from 1965 to 1978 (right up the block from the main gate at Bakers Field). Kindergarden at PS 98 and Good Shepherd (class of 1975). Inwood was a great place to grow up... hopefully it still is. I don't get up to the old neighborhood too often.

I grew up in Inwood, lived on Sherman Ave &; 207th, graduated from Good Shepherd in 1985 and seeing pictures of my old streets as they once were is a real time capsule into Inwood's past. Thanks so much for the excellent work in compiling this!

Wow! What a great site! I was born in Inwood in 1960, lived at 77 Park Terrace East, across from Judge Murtagh of Black Panthers trial fame, his son is my age. My Dad, born in Munich, died there in September, 1964. My grandparents lived at 72 Park Terrace West, my grandmother until 1987. We had lots of great friends and Inwood and Park Terrace will always be part of me. Many hours spent in Isham Park, Indian Hill Park and 207th Street. Haven Pizza, Rings, Arnold the Butcher, all great Inwood establishments that I fondly remember.

Thanks for creating this great site and bringing back so many great memories.

Thank you so much for compiling these wonderful now and then photos. My parents raised all of us kids in an Apt on West 211st. They lived in that apt over 50 yrs and now my mother lives on Seaman and 215th. Inwood Hill park and the surrounding neighborhood hold so many wonderful memories. Thank you especially for the Tulip Tree picture where the Indians sold Manhattan island. When I was in PS 98 I remember the dedication of Shorakkpoch Rock but never saw the great tulip tree that stood there. Please keep up the great work!

Moved to Inwood shortly before I started school in 1944. Graduated from Good Shepherd in 1951, and from Cathedral High School in 1955. Lived on Sherman Avenue and 207th Street.
Would like to make contact with people who lived there to reminisce about the time and place.

It's clear from these photos that the northern tip of Manhattan hasn't changed the way other neighborhoods further to the south have; many of the apartment houses built in the 1920's still stand. Today, many of them have been converted to condominiums, and Inwood offers great values to recent immigrants and young men and women launching careers in New York. In fact, I saw in the Times that Inwood is known around Lincoln Center as the "diva neighborhood," because of all the Met singers living there.
